Review: Kings of War Historical

I received my copy of Mantic Game's Kings of War Historical this week and what can I say! Well a lot in turns out!

Developed by the great Alessio Cavatore, this looks to be another great success.

It is definitely not the most in depth or detailed historical game out there, and is far from a "simulation" of historical battles. Rather it seems to be intended to allow you to get quick and fun games in with your Historical models or easily transition between Fantasy and Historical gaming without learning too many rule sets. This is done by replicating the Kings of War rules in their entirety (meaning this is a stand alone product and no other KoW title is required to play) and then adding a multitude of faction lists with a common "Master List" for play.
This is a great things for beginners in the world of historical war gaming, and can easily be the foundation of a club or event.

One key thing to note is that the game allows for cross over play with the fantasy Kings of War armies and incorporation of "Mythical Units" into the faction lists of history, allowing a true narrative experience into the mythology of a culture, whether is be Greek Epics, Arthurian Legend, Germanic Fairy Tales or Chinese Folk Legends.

Dreadtober: Part 1 and 2!

So I am doing Dreadtober! Hosted by the Broken Paintbrush!
I am however a little behind! So here is a combipost for Part 1 and Part 2

PART ONE! THE PLAN

So on top of EVERYTHING ELSE I HAVE TO DO I am going to try and work in at LEAST ONE Dreadnought this month. May not be on the Dreadtober timeline, but that is life. The point is to get a painted Dread done by the 1st week in NOV, because 40k always ALWAYS needs more Dreadnoughts.

Right now I am sitting on 5 Dreadnoughts. One built and primed, one primed and 3 unprimed. I ALSO have 2 more Contemptor arms I have to paint and magnetize.

The plan right now is to paint at least one Dread and do at least one Contemptor Arm this month. Ideally 2 of each. Priority though is my Red Hunters Dread for Adepticon, though I am waiting on a Forgeworld order to get in to do that (should be here by next week). Next is to convert and paint a Frag Cannon Contemptor Arm for this guy, also for Adepticon. After that, I have an Assault on Black Reach Dread for my Battle Company (even though Angel's Blade is garbage) and a Contemptor Multi-Melta to paint.

PART TWO! ASSEMBLY

Well, hold on there. I still am waiting on Forgeworld right? Well I do have this guy built
And here is the lovely plastic crack awaiting assembly. But more importantly over all is finishing the Terminators on my desk, my armies on parade board, and starting a super secret project ALSO for Adepticon (that won't be a secret as soon as I start it).

Somehow my blogroll disappeared! Submit links!

I don't know how, I don't know why, but my link list/blog roll is gone. Poof. Vanished out of thin air. Really depressed about that because it was how I went out there and saw all of your great stuff. Fortunately I was able to restore a good portion by having remembered to hit "Follow" on your blog in the past, but even some of my favourites I had not...
Please, if you run or manage a blog, leave a comment with a link so I can repopulate my list, especially if you have my blog on your site! I want to be able to be as linked to as much of your content as possible to spread the hobby love!

Kharn the Betrayer

Last week I did a Kharn the Betrayer commission for a friend of mine. Really a great kit to build and paint. My only complaint with it is the design of the legs. There is all this great detail, particularly the skulls on the knees, that look amazing and I spent alot of time on... for almost no reason. Because of the pose, they are pointed basically directly down, and he is on such a large base and at such an extreme angle, that even when you hold him upside down, you can't really see then.
Overall though, it is really well done kit. They have perfected dividing up sprues. Nearly every mold line is hidden along some glue point or by some detail. I still cleaned them all, but even if you miss one or it is imperfect, the chances of seeing it on the final product are extremely slim.

I also played with Focus Stacking photography last night (the black back ground picture). Probably what I am going to do from now on for EVERYTHING. That is once my new camera gets here Thursday!

Confession's of a 40k addict 2016/17 Hobby Season Challenge: September Update

An update on my Hobby Season Challenge, 1 month in.
